"Turkmengas" resumes gas supplies to Russia09.01.2010 23:59MARY VELAYAT, 9 January - IP "TURKMENinform". Today the "Turkmengas" State Corporation resumed gas supplies to Russia in gas-main pipeline Dovletabad-Deryalyk after an eight month interruption caused by explosion at one of the Central Asia - Center pipeline's sections in April 2009. On December 22, 2009 President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev paid a working visit to Ashkhabad to conclude an agreement with the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov on resuming energy fuel supplies to Russia and discuss news gas export volumes and prices .
Under the previous contract Russia paid $65-140 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas to Turkmenistan, importing some 50 billion cu m. According to the new Turkmen-Russian gas agreement, from 2010 Turkmenistan will deliver to Russia up to 30 billion cu m of natural gas annually at European-level prices.
With putting into operation of two new inter-state gas-main pipelines Turkmenistan-China (world's longest gas artery for today via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to deliver up to 40 billion cu m annually to China) and Turkmenistan-Iran (the Dovletabad - Serakhs - Hangeran gas-transport system to export from 14 to 20 billion cu m of blue fuel to Iran per year), the gas-exporting potential of Turkmenistan will make up some 90 billion cu m. In order to provide the full capacity of gas pipelines and meet its export engagements, Turkmenistan intensifies exploration and development of new deposits and wells at oil-and-gas fields all over the country, conducts a large-scale reconstruction and modernization of old manufactures, develops low-production wells and restores the dormant ones.
